Forest Bathing, known in Japan as “Shinrin-yoku”, is the intention is to nurture our relationship with the natural world, and to decompress from the stress and overstimulation of our high-tech culture and a staple of preventative healthcare and healing in Japanese medicine.  The Forest Bathing program is designed to help you slow down and connect with nature in the beautiful and inspiring setting of the Boston Outdoor School.  It’s not a hike, and you don’t need a towel to participate.  It is a very slow walk with stops along the way to rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul. 

But forest bathing is about more than just feeling calm in nature. The scientific research, most conducted in Japan, backs up the health benefits of engaging in the forest. A 40-minute walk in the forest proven to improve mood and wellbeing, according to the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. A walk in the forest decreases stress hormone cortisol and can help mitigate headaches, high blood pressure, heart problems and boost immune system. The practice also boosts mental performance and creativity, according to the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy’s site.

Regardless of what you believe, there is something here for everyone.

Instructor: Lisa Mediano

You will be led by our Certified Forest Therapy Guide, Lisa Mediano, who received her training through the Association of Forest and Nature Therapy Guides and Programs™.  She will guide you from “moving” into “being” as you slowly engage your senses, cultivating mindful awareness of your surroundings, and allowing nature’s own beauty and rhythms to re-balance each of us.

Lisa Mediano considers herself an an ongoing project. She is an attorney, real estate broker, art & antiques dealer, and most recently, a Certified Forest Therapy Guide. And before it’s all over, she will likely embark on more career paths. None of them define her as a person. She is a Mom to her beloved twin daughters, and with her husband she takes endless delight in the woods. They obsess over the interconnectedness of mushrooms, plants, and trees, and forget about the outside world as much as possible.
