Description

Coyote, fisher, fox and even bobcat roam the landscape of New England.  Although the animals themselves are seldom seen, winter is the time when the evidence of their presence is most easily noticed.

Program is normally 3 hours long. When facilities permit, the first hour is indoors learning to identify animal tracks and sign, and discussing animal behavior. Then we go outside to explore the chosen area to see what animals are present.

Experienced naturalist and tracker Bob Metcalfe will lead the group on a winter tracking hike. Bob will begin with a short presentation in the Botume House, followed by an educational hike through the Middlesex Fells. Bob will share his insights into the secret world of woodland animals through the messages written in their tracks. Participants will leave with tracking tips to understand the movement of animals through the forest.

This event is open to all ages, however, very small children should be carried, and not brought in a stroller. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy, waterproof shoes, as the trails may be muddy.
